LeMARS - The South O'Brien Wolverines and Le Mars Gehlen Jays fought a tightly contested game here Friday night in a War Eagle Conference girls' basketball contest.
The teams were tied, 12-12, after one quarter, and again, 24-24 at halftime. Gehlen grabbed a two-point advantage, 32-30, heading into the final quarter, but South O,Brien wound up on top by a single point, 43- 42.
SOS coach Julie Paulsen said, "This was an important win for us," and added, "The girls played very hard for four quarters. I was proud of their ability to fight."
The coach said that turnovers were again an issue, but that the girls kept playing with intensity throughout the game.
Carrie Egdorf, with 14 points, and Chelsie Rohrs, with 13, led the SOS scoring. Rohrs also had eight rebounds and four steals, and Egdorf had five assists for South O'Brien.
