Merle Verland Watke, 72 of Omaha Neb. died Dec. 14, 2006 at his home in Omaha Neb.

Services were held Tuesday, Dec. 19 at 1p.m., St. Paul's Lutheran Church of Millard, Neb., with full military honors by Millard American Legion Post #374 and VFW Post #8334. Inurnment at a later date, Hills of Rest Cemetery, Sioux Falls, SD.

Memorials are suggested to St. Paul Lutheran Church or Methodist Hospice. Visitation from 4 p.m. Monday, Dec. 18 with family receiving friends 6p.m. to 8 p.m. at the West Center Chapel.

Watke was born on April 4, 1934 in Alvord and he graduated from Brandon High School in Brandon, S.D. After serving in the U.S. Army, he was employed by Jordan Millwork, Sioux Falls, S.D. for 39 years.

He married Shirley Cook, and they lived in various places in the Midwest. His passion, besides his family, was his employment.

He was preceded in death by parents, Albert and Ruth Watke.

He is survived by wife, Shirley Watke; children: Sheri Watke Shively and husband John; Kim Alan Watke and wife Carla; grandchildren: Desiree, Leah and Wesley; aunts, Linda Schlotfeldt and Vi Fitzgerald; cousins.
