Ty Gough , a grandson of Cherokee citizen Herb Ford , has accepted a full -ride basketball scholarship to Texas State University , a Division I school in San Marcos, Texas.† Ty and his mother , Lauree Ford, moved to southern Texas over 2 years ago, and over the last year, he has had offers from several other Division I schools, including Indiana, Ohio, UTEP, TCU, SMU, Arkansas,Tennessee. He is looking forward to working with the new Texas State coaches, and the other top recruits coming in with him to play for the Bobcats next year.
Ty, a 6-10, 245 pounder, plays for PSJA High School in McAllen, Texas, and is ranked 70th in the United States and 40th in Texas at his position. He was selected for several all-area and all-conference teams last season as a junior, when he averaged 18 points,18 rebounds, and 4 assists per game, breaking the Valley Conference rebound record. Gough also won several dunking competitions in southern Texas.
