In a War Eagle Conference game at Paullina Friday night , against the West Sioux (Hawarden)Falcons , the South O'Brien girls found themselves down by seven points at the half. The Wolverines fought hard throughout the very physical game, but when the final buzzer sounded, they came up two points shy of beating West Sioux, losing 38-36.
Jill Paulsen led MMC's scoring with a 10-point effort. Coach Julie Paulsen said she was proud of the girls' fight, but also said the team continue to have too many turnovers.
Paulsen feels the Wolverines' defense is "moving forward," and the Wolverines "d" was paced by Carrie Egdorf, who had eight rebounds and six steals and Jill Paulsen, who also pilfered six West Sioux passes.
The South O'Brien girls' next game is a contest with Hartley-Melvin-Sanborn at Paullina on January 2, 2007 - a game in which, FYI, the players will be representing five of the eight former Sioux Valley Conference schools- Hartley, Sanborn, Paullina, Primghar, and Sutherland.
