WHITING - The River Valley boys "hit a tough stretch in the second quarter, and weren't able to recover," said their coach, Dean Norris, summarizing his team's Maple Valley matchup with the Warriors here on December 21st. The Wolverines were down 12-8 after one quarter, but it was 32-16, Whiting, at halftime.
Norris said "Matt Simons played an excellent game on both ends of the floor" for River Valley, leading the team in scoring with 13 points as well as on defense, holding Whiting's leading scorer 11 points under his season average.
Andy Paulsen added 11 points for River Valley, and Sophomore Anthony Volkert had eight points and another strong rebounding effort, taking eight caroms off the boards.
Pat Parcel, with four points and six assists, and Zach Hullinger, with five points, were other stalwarts for River Valley.
