M. E. Elaine "Babe" Peterson, 90, of Cherokee, died on Monday, Jan. 8, 2007 at 11:35 p.m. in the Cherokee Regional Medical Center following a brief illness.
Graveside services will be held Thursday, Jan. 11, at 1 p.m. at Oak Hill Cemetery in Cherokee. The Rev. Ray Hampton will officiate.
Visitation will be today from 11 a.m. until 8 p.m. at the Boothby Funeral Home in Cherokee with the family present from 6:30 p.m. until 8 p.m.
She was born Oct. 13, 1916 in Cherokee, to Howard and Luella Anne (Reddington) Krout. She was married to Leonard C. Peterson on Nov. 27, 1934 at Sioux City. She had worked in the kitchen at the Cherokee Mental Health Institute for a number of years. She and her husband owned and operated Peterson and Sons Plumbing & Heating for many years. She was a member of St. Paul's United Methodist Church.
She was preceded in death by her parents, her husband Leonard in 1973, two sons Donald in 2004 and Daniel in 2005, a grandson Matthew Monaghan, a great grandson Austin Brafford, three sisters Bertha Redman, Azalea Boatman and Beulah Powell.
She is survived by 4 daughters: Ruth Hoke of Goleta, Calif.; Mary Frances Loy and her husband Paul of Denver, Iowa; Kay Heidemann and her husband Robert of Collins; Susie Monaghan of Queen Creek, Ariz.; a daughter-in-law Linda Peterson of Cherokee, Iowa; 15 grandchildren; 33 great grandchildren, 4 great great grandchildren; three sisters: Shirley Rasmussen of Galva; Charlotte Leonard and Marcella Cline both of Cherokee.
