Crews from Cherokee and LeMars restored power in Cherokee Jan. 10. Fortunately, both crews were on hand doing regular maintenance to get the power back up as soon as possible. Photo by Mike Leckband.
The cause of Wednesday's power failure in Cherokee was determined to be the result of a broken insulator. The equipment failure occurred about 11:50 a.m. on the River Road just south of West Beech Street and left 950 customers without power.
Within an hour Mid American Energy crews from Cherokee and Le Mars had power restored to 300 customers. The remaining 650 customers had power restored by 1:45 p.m.
The Mid American crew from LeMars was already in town to help with routine maintenance when the power was disrupted.
