PAULLINA - The South O'Brien girls took on the 12-1 fourth-ranked Akron-Westfield Westerners in War Eagle Conference basketball action at Paullina on Friday night. The Wolverines were down 27-10 after one quarter, 46-26 at the half, and 68-43 going into the final quarter, and the final score was Akron-Westfield 80, South O'Brien 51.
Despite being down the whole game, SOS coach Julie Paulsen said the Wolverines "never quit fighting. They worked very hard and played scrappy basketball- and I'm proud of that."
Jill Paulsen topped SOS scoring with 14 points, and Rachel Steinkamp had 10. Paulsen also led the team in rebounding, with 10, and steals, with two. Sophomore Chelsie Rohrs had five rebounds.
