SCHALLER - The Aurelia Bulldog boys started a little slow, and were down 14-11 after one quarter, but caoch Grant Peckenschneider said the team went on a 9-0 run to end the first half, and maintained the lead throughout the second half, winning the Northwest Conference game by a 57-41 score here Tuesday night.
" I was happy with only six turnovers," said Peckenschneider. The coach also said that senior Jacob Bruce "played a real solid game" with 18 points, four rebounds, four steals, and five assists, and (Jacob's sophomore brother) Aaron Bruce also had a solid game with 14 points and eight rebounds. Tanner Winterhof scored 17 points, including three big three-pointers.
Gabe Fuller led Bulldog rebounding with 12 grabs, and junior Jared Bruce had six rebounds and three steals. The Bulldogs shot 46 percent overall ñ 50 percent on two-point attempts and 33 percent on 12 three-point attempts.
Schaller-Crestland's Kiley Murra played for the first time this year and
"looked pretty good," said Peckenschneider, adding that "he scored 10 points in limited time, and did some nice things down low for them."
"Overall," concluded Peckenschneider, "it was a good win, and the kids played well the last three quarters, following a slow start."
In the opener, the Bulldog girls started the night off right as they beat the Wildcat girls by a score of 48-39.
Kristine Munden scored 14 for Aurelia, and Christa Corderman (13) and Leah Kai (10) were also in double figures.
