Lehnhoff's big win in final match forges tie score
MARCUS - A thrilling final match won in impressive fashion by Marcus-Meriden-Cleghorn's Jacob Lehnoff forced a tied team score for the host Eagles and visiting Kingsley-Pierson wrestlers here Monday night at 33-33.
However, MMC was declared the winner of the exciting dual based on the first criteria - the fact the Eagles had won eight matches, to seven by the Panthers, and the MMC fans partied on at the results.
The two evenly-matched mat squads and longtime wrestling rivals with tradition-rich programs battled throughout, before Lehnhoff, with the outcome riding on his shoulders, scored a major four-point decision (12-0) to tie the score at 33-all at the final buzzer. Had Lehnhoff won just by desicison (three points), MMc would have lost the match 33-32. Of course, a pin win or technical fall win (five points) would have given MMC the match outright.
Earning wins by fall for MMC were Mitch Erdman at 125, and Jerad Letsche at 160. Tory Johnson won his match at 140 by technical fall.
The Eagles end regular season in a dual at Lawton-Bronson Monday.
