GRANVILLE - The Marcus-Meriden-Cleghorn Eagles started slow here on Friday night, and found themselves trailing the host Spalding team 7-6 after one quarter. The halftime score was 19-15, Splading. Eagle coach Al Vasher said his team played a much bettter second half, grabbing a third quarter 35-34 lead, then turning it on in the fourth for a final 51-40 win.

Vasher said he thought the Eagles "were a little tense and tight" in the opening half, but felt the tea settled down and played with a lot more patience as the game progressed.

Tim Holmes led Eagle scoring with 23 points, as well as team rebounding with nine. Nate Dammann added 12 points for M-M-C, and Jordan Boekhout ten. Brandon Brady had three steals for the M-M-C defense.

Spalding Catholic's Alex Jungers had 18 points and 17 rebounds to lead his team.

The M-M-C boys have one more regular season matchup - a varsity/ junior varsity doubleheader against Kingsley-Pierson on Thursday at Marcus. They start tournament play next week.
