Cherokee JV girls finish 17-1 season

Thursday, February 22, 2007

The Cherokee Washington High JV girls basketball team beat Estherville-LC 39-26 in their season finale last week, to finish the 2006-2007 season with a sparkling 17-1 record and the Lakes Conference JV championship.

Lynn Carlson led the way for Cherokee with 14 points and five rebounds, while Nicole Hatch scored nine, and Alison Husman and Jesselyn Racine six apiece. Husman and Racine also pocketed five rebounds each, and Shauna Drefke led the winners in steals with five, and Hatch had four. Drefke also led in assists with four.

"Our team played very well against Estherville-LC," said Cherokee coach Maggie Mishler. "We had a couple players not playing due to being sick, but the other girls stepped up and did what they needed to get the job done.

"The girls had a great season. They played very well together and deserve the success they have had. I am very proud of their work ethic and teamwork."
