Tuesday, February 27, 2007

LAKE CITY - The Maple Valley Conference champion Galva-Holstein Pirates lost their regular season wrap-up on Thursday night in non-conference action here against Southern Cal, 58-49.

Pirate coach Bob Lee said his team had "sluggish moments" in both the second and third quarters, and they trailed at all the quarter stops - 13-10, 26-23, and 43-36.

Elijah Miller scored 15 points for the Pirates against Southern Cal, and the senior guard added four rebounds, seven steals, two assists, and one blocked shot for a good overall performance. Post player John Dentlinger had a "double-double," scoring 13 and grabbing 10 boards. Dentlinger also blocked four Southern Cal shots. Southern Cal had three players score in double figures, as Gavin Crandall scored 22 points, Keaton Hildreth 13, and John Blessington 10 for the Mustangs, members of the Twin Lakes Conference.

Coach Lee said he hoped the loss would help the team to get focused for the District Tournament, as "it has been a good regular season, and we're looking forward to the Tournament." Galva-Holstein finished the season with an overall mark of 16-4, including their 11-0 mark in the conference.

The Pirates take on Whiting in District Tournament action at 6:30 p.m. on Thursday in Sloan.
