The Mustangs, who won NAIA Division II National Championships in 2004 and 2005, have an all-time record of 11-3 in NAIA National Tournament competition. The Mustangs had an 11-game winning streak in national tournament play end with an 80-60 loss against Cardinal Stritch University in the second round of last year's national tourney.
Morningside defeated Cedarville University 87-74 in the 2004 NAIA Division II Championship Game and topped Cedarville 75-65 in the 2005 title game.
Morningside shot 35.9 percent from the field in a 68-65 loss to Northwestern College in the semifinals of the GPAC's post-season tournament on Feb. 24 in Sioux City. Autumn Bartel and Dani Gass shared Mustang scoring honors with 16 points. Bartel, a 5-9 sophomore guard from Cherokee, Iowa, is the 35th leading scorer in Morningside history with 648 career points. She is 28 points behind the 34th place scoring total of 676 points by 1989 graduate Tonia Arehart. Bartel has averaged 10.0 points per game during her Morningside career.
