Services were held on Tuesday March 13, 2007 at 10:30 a.m. at the Immaculate Conception Catholic Church, Cherokee. Rev. Armand Bertrand officiated. Burial was at the Mount Calvary Cemetery, Cherokee. Visitation was Monday from 9 a.m. to 9 p.m., with a scripture service at 7 p.m. at the Greenwood Funeral Home, Cherokee. Military graveside services will be held by the V.F.W., L.A. He was born on April 18, 1921 in Silver Township of rural Cherokee, to Carl and Jenny (Carlson) Hanson. He was educated in the Cherokee School system. During World War II he served as a flight engineer in the U.S. Air Force. Following his military service he returned to Cherokee to work as an auto mechanic for 38 years in Cherokee and Marcus. After his retirement he mowed for Green Space during the summer months.
Ken was a member of the Immaculate Conception Catholic Church. For many years, Ken participated in Cherokee Bowling Leagues.
Survivors include his wife; sons, Ray Hanson, and his wife, Margaret, of Marcus; Robert Hanson, and his wife, Rosie, of Cherokee; Michael Hanson, and his wife, June, of Cherokee; daughters, Anne Newman, and her husband, Ray, of Sioux City; Mary Lou Carlson, and her husband, Albin, of Cherokee; Sharon Grauer, and her husband, Joel, of Silver City; a brother, Egon Hanson, and his wife, Shirley, of Cherokee; 12 grandchildren and 20 great-grandchildren.
He was preceded in death by his parents, brothers (Ray, Harvey, Henry) and a sister (Judy.)
