Funeral services were held today, March 19, at 10:30 a.m. at the Quimby United Methodist Church. Rev. Carolyn Hollar will officiate.
Burial will be in the Memorial Park Cemetery in Sioux City. There is a family prayer service at 10:15 a.m. at the Church today. Visitation was from 10 a.m. until 8 p.m. on Sunday at the Boothby Funeral Home in Cherokee, with the family present from 2 p.m. until 4 p.m. and also from 6 p.m. until 7:30 p.m.
She was born Feb. 6, 1921 at Orient, to Scottie U. and Bertha (James) Eatinger. She graduated from Central High School in Sioux City, in 1938. She was married to Manfred D. Hanson on March 29, 1941 at her parent's home in Sioux City.
She had worked for the USDA in the ASCS Office in Cherokee from 1960 until retiring on April 3, 1985. She had lived in the Quimby area since 1949 and in Sioux City for 20 years. She was a member of the Quimby United Methodist Church, the Ruth Circle, United Methodist Women, the Quimby American Legion Auxiliary, and NARFE. She enjoyed time spent with her grandchildren, watching sports, and was a dedicated Chicago Cubs fan.
She was preceded in death by her parents, her husband Manfred in 1959, a son Mervin Hanson in 1997, an infant daughter Marion Marie Hanson, a brother and sister-in-law Donald and Helen Eatinger and a brother Leo Eatinger
She is survived by one daughter and two sons: Marilyn Nelson and her husband Larry of Quimby; Michael Hanson and his wife Mary Ann of Washta; Marty Hanson and his wife Marcia of Strawberry Point; a daughter-in-law Betty Hanson of Charleston, S.C.; nine grandchildren: Larry D. & Angela Nelson; Brad & Dedra Nelson; Dawn Nelson; Ron Allen; Neresa & John Lee; Paul Hanson; Ann & Jerry Carter; Heidi Hanson; Jennifer Hanson; Seven great grandchildren: Kris Nelson; Dakota, Stetson and Hunter Nelson; Aimee and Faith Lee; Brody Hanson; two sisters-in-law: Mildred Hanson Stevenson of Cherokee; Dorothy Hanson of Sergeant Bluff; also several nieces and nephews.
