Leslie O. "Les" Gregg, 95 of rural Cherokee, died Sunday, March 18, 2007, at 6:10 p.m. in the Buena Vista Regional Medical Center in Storm Lake, following a short illness.
Graveside services were held on March 21st at the Cedar Cemetery in rural Larrabee. Rev. Ray Kruger officiated.
Gregg was born on Jan. 30, 1912 at Cherokee, and attended Larrabee Consolidated Schools. He was married to Alice Cave on Aug. 31, 1933 at Cherokee. Les was a lifelong farmer, and also worked as a supervisor at the Cherokee Mental Health Institute in his younger years; he and his wife owned and operated Gregg's Hilltop Nursing Home for many years. He loved to raise livestock on his farm, was an avid bowler, enjoyed playing cards, fishing and traveling.
He was preceded in death by his parents; his wife Alice, on Dec. 25, 1986, a daughter, Delores Simons, in 1996; four brothers- Raymond, William, Francis and Glen Gregg; two sisters-in-law, Lela Brownmiller Clark and Arlene Raymond; and a brother-in-law, Clarence Cave.
He is survived by two daughters: Donna Robinson and her husband Bernie of Newell; Darlene Woltman and her husband Loren of Cherokee; 14 grandchildren: Doug & Tracy Simons of Alta; Dian & Mike Hallmark of New Braunfels, Texas; Craig & Sandy Simons of Carrollton, Mo.; Kaylynn Simons of Phoenix, Ariz.; Dean & Lois Magnussen of Dubois, Wyo.; Christina & Tom Hare of Peterson; Dawn & John Miller of Albert City; Duane & Cindy Magnussen of Newell; Lisa & Dick Reinert of Marcus; Brenda & Dean West of Peterson; Kevin & Wendy Magnussen of Moville; Dana & Lisa Woltman of Cherokee; Brian & Janet Woltman of LeMars; Kyle & Mindy Woltman of Lisbon; 28 great grandchildren; and several nieces and nephews.
