John Holbrook, the River Valley High School principal, has resigned his position to accept another administration position in a Des Moines area school district.
His resignation was accepted at the Mar. 19th meeting of the River Valley School Board.
The board also accepted resignations of Dale Barringer, who is retiring as high school Biology instructor; Rebecca Sanow as teacher's aide and dishwasher; and Sandra Allen as cheerleading coach. The resignation of Allen was accepted contingent upon finding a suitable replacement.
The board approved a master contract for support staff that increases the wage and benefit package by 5.19 percent. The teachers are on a two-year contract, which was not up for renewal this year.
The board approved a plan to switch buildings for the alternative high school program. The change allows for a larger space with more flexibility.
Due to the number of snow days this year, the students will need to come back after the Memorial Day holiday for a day of school. May 24, 25 and 29 have been designated as snow make up days.
Seniors are not affected by the snow make up schedule.
During the open forum, a student spoke in opposition to the policy of not allowing early graduates to attend activities during second semester. River Valley policy currently prohibits students who graduate at the end of first semester from participating in any second semester activity, other than the graduation ceremony.
The board took no action on the matter and had no discussion on it since it was not on the agenda.
