Mary E. Dickerson-Splittgerber, 88, of Rochester, Minn. and former long time Larrabee area resident, died Wednesday, April 11, 2007 at the Sutherland Care Center following a short illness.
Funeral services will be held Saturday, April 14, at 1:30 p.m. at the Larrabee United Methodist Church. Rev. Dennis Hopes will officiate. Burial will be in the Cedar Cemetery at Larrabee on a later date.
Visitation will be from 11 a.m. until 9 p.m. today at the Boothby Funeral Home in Cherokee, with the family present from 6:30 p.m. until 8 p.m.
Mary was born Sept. 24, 1918 in Cherokee County, to Robert Floyd Lockwood and Mae (Wilkie) Lockwood. She graduated from Larrabee High School in 1937. She was married to Floyd "Slim" Dickerson on June 21, 1937 at Sioux City, Iowa. The couple farmed in the Larrabee, Quimby and Aurelia area for many years. Floyed died on Sept. 25, 1954.
She was married to Ronald Splittgerber on Dec. 10, 1955 at Onawa. The couple had lived in Rochester, Minn. since 1957. She had worked at the Sears catalogue store in Cherokee, at the Sears store and a photo lab in Rochester, Minn. She was a member of the Larrabee United Methodist Church and the Rebekah Lodge. She enjoyed crocheting, fishing and time spent with her grandchildren.
She was preceded in death by her parents, her husband Floyd, twin grandchildren Jacklyn and Jennifer Joines, a sister and brother-in-law Harriet and Donald Harreld.
She is survived by her husband Ronald of Paullina; four children and their spouses: Sara (Bill) Joines of Larrabee; Susan (Wayne) Wilson of St. Petersburg, Fla.; Robert (Nancy) Dickerson of Rochester, Minn.; Harriet Cole of Owatonna, Minn.; 15 grandchildren, 33 great grandchildren, 3 great great grandchildren; 2 step-grandchildren, 4 step-great grandchildren; one brother Robert (Elisabeth) Lockwood of Cherokee.
