LE MARS - The talented Cherokee Braves track and field team captured the Class A title at the Le Mars Invitational here Monday night.
The Braves tallied 123 points to win the crown, followed by Le Mars Gehlen 113, Lawton-Bronson 85, Alta 82, Remsen St. Mary's 58, Westwood 53, Hinton 27, and West Sioux 16.
Cherokee swept four of the six relays on the way to the impressive showing, and crowned three individual champions, including Chris Campbell's 19-10 3/4 long jump, Andy Dawson's 6-0 high jump, and Philip Bieber's 2:20.1 clocking in the 800 meters.
The Braves won the shuttle hurdle relay in 1:05.76 with Eli Ramirez, Matt Koch, Kyle Schuett, and Drew Lugar aboard; won the 4x100 relay with Schuett, Everson Siegel, Michael Boothby, and Campbell timed in 45.71; won the 4x200 relay in 1:34.66 with Schuett, Siegel, Ramirez, and Campbell aboard; and won the 4x400 relay in 3:39, featuring Lugar, Siegel, Nick Daum, and Evan Lundell.
The Braves were second in the medley relay with a time of 4:00.2 with Dawson, Josh Mugge, Ryan White, and Lundell aboard; and placed thikrd in the 4x800 relay with Lundell, Daum, Dan Bieber, and Philip Bieber clocking an 8:55.9.
Koch was second in the high jump with a leap of 5-10, Lugar was second in the 110 meter hurdles in a time of 16.13, and Ramirez was second in the 400 meter hurdles in 59.73.
Third-place individual finishes for Cherokee included Schuett's 19-06 1/2 long jump, while Nate O'Bryan was fourth in the 3200 meters in a time of 11:11.7.
Jordan Hecox was fifth in the 200 meters in 24.66, and Ryan White was fifth in the 400 meters in 55.74. Nate O'Bryan was sixth in the 1600 meters in a time of 5:15.69.
In JV action, the 4x100 relay of Kyle Schuck, Kory Ludwig, Nolan Sampson, and Tony Hunt was first in 50.96. The JV 4x200 was fourth in a time of 1:54.31 with Schuck, Dan Bieber, Sampson, and Hunt aboard. Luke Pearson was third in the JV 800 meters in 2:16.7.
The Braves run in the Knight Relays in Orange City on Monday.
