Jared Bruce sets record in 3200 meters

ALTA - It was a pretty nice day for a track meet here on April 17th, weather-wise, and it also turned out to be a nice day, performance-wise, for the Aurelia track teams, as they competed at the Alta Co-Ed Relays.

The Aurelia girls finished second in the meet, with 141 points.

First-place performances were turned in by the shuttle hurdle relay team of Jessica Cougill, Kristine Munden, Katee Dean, and Priscilla Otto, with a time of 1:10.4; the sprint medley team of Christa Corderman, Dean, Shelby Dierenfield, and Erin Laursen, in 2:05.25; the 4x400 team of Liz Laursen, Cassie Sleezer, Corderman, and Erin Laursen, in 4:47.53; Dierenfield in the high jump (4-10); and Otto in the long jump (14-9).

The 4x200 relay (Chrysta Cmelik, Ashley Anderson, Liz Laursen, and Tiffany Johnson) placed third, as did Johnson in the long jump, and Dierenfield in the 100.

Coach Jolene Hultgren said her team "had a great meet," adding that

"it was fun to see the team put forth a super effort". Several of the team members had their personal bests.

"As coaches," said Hultgren, "we challenged the team to do their best and to be competitive in each and every event. They met that challenge and came away with a second place finish overall."

The Aurelia boys finished third in the six-team field with 100 points. Host Alta won the boys team title with 192 points, and Remsen St. Mary's was second with 115.

The 'Dogs were led by Jared Bruce's meet record time of 10:26.97 in the 3200 meter run. Bruce's time beat the old record, set by fellow Bulldog Curtis Parker in 2005, by nearly two seconds.
