POCAHONTAS - The Marcus Girls' Track squad finished fourth in a strong field at the Pocahontas Track & Field Invitational here on Tuesday.
Sioux Central won team honors with 169 points, and St. Edmond's, Ft. Dodge was second, with 130 points.Laurens-Marathon placed third with 98 points, edging the Eagles, who tallied 88. Prairie Valley, with 83 points, and Graettinger-Terril, with 15, completed the field.
Eagle senior Lara Letsche took first place in the shot put, with a heave of 35-10, and also grabbed second in the discus, throwing the platter 96-8.75 feet. Fellow senior Anna Klingenberg won the 800 meter run in a time of 2:36.7.
The 4x200 team of Alex Hoefling, Jena Mittelstadt, Ashley Schneider, and Klingenberg finished second, with a time of 1:56.8; and the 4x800 team (Rachel McDermott, Jill Bird, Megan Deichmann, and LeAnn Johnson) also finished second in their race, posting a time of 11:56.4.
Thirds went to Alex Hoefling with a 13.7 time in the 100 meters; Jill Bird's 5:56.9 clocking in the 1500 meters; the sprint medley relay of Lyndsie Holmes, Jena Mittlestadt, Schneider, and Klingenberg timed in 2:02; the 4x400 relay of Mittlestadt, McDermott, Schneider, and Klingenberg timed in 4:40.1; and the 4x100 relay of Hoefling, Holmes, Bree Radcliffe, and Mittlestadt clocked in 56.14.
Eagle coach Ric Collins said he was proud of the seniors on the squad, who all scored points. The Eagles are a young team, and "are still learning in some events," said Collins.
The team has five meets left before the District, hosting three of those meets, and traveling to West Sioux in Hawarden for the other two.
