CARROLL - The Cherokee 7th-grade girls track and field team tallied five firsts and 35 team points at the Carroll Relays here on April 17th, also featuring winner Denison-Schleswig (67 points) and Carroll (53).
Clare Tuttle was a triple winner for the Cherokee Middle School club, winning the long jump with a 12-10 1/2 leap, the 7-flight hurdles in a time of 14.83, and the 200-meter hurdles in a time of 34.50. Taylor Woods also snagged a first-place finish with a 26-5 heave in the shot put.
The 4x100 relay team of Brooke Luetkeman, Katie Sambrano, Jackie Wilson, and Shanon Shaefer also won first place with a 1:01.62 clocking.
Cherokee seconds included the 4x800 relay of Sambrano, Shaefer, Wilson, and Tuttle timed in 12:21.57; the distance medley relay of Katy Hart, Whitney Webb, Tasha Larsen, and Shalya Keyser timed in 5:52.19; and the sprint medley relay of Luetkeman, Sambrano, Shaefer, and Wilson timed in 2:17.19.
Krista Nicolaisen was third in the 800 meters with a 3:23.06 clocking.
7th boys run well at Carroll
The Cherokee 7th-grade boys scored 40 team points. Matt Enderlin keyed the Cherokee squad with three first-place finishes, winning the 100 meters in 12.9, the 200 in 27.3, and the 400 in 1:03.8.
The 4x800 relay team of Zac Anderson, Tyler McLaughlin, Dustin Rosewall, and Austin Winchell won in a time of 11:30.8; and the 1600 medley relay of Jake Spindler, Jack Letsche, Adam Pitts, and McLaughlin won in a time of 5:08.7.
Second-place winners for Cherokee included Anderson in the 7-flight hurdles in 13.5, and Rosewall in the 800 meters in a time of 2:41.1.
"I was happy with the effort and hope the effort at practice and performances at meets will improve as the season progresses," said Cherokee coach Keith Riley.
