Monday, April 30, 2007

Carmon (Petersen) Vos Gerau of Clemmons, NC, died on Thursday, April 19, 2007 following a lengthy, but courageous, battle with cancer. She was born in Cherokee on June 15, 1935 to Adrian and Opal (Barnard) Petersen, grew up on a farm in Cherokee County, and was graduated from Holstein High School in 1953. She attended further schooling in Omaha, Neb., and was married to James Clark of Omaha. After moving to California, she worked for many years at a urology medical clinic and for Blue Cross.

On February 19, 1971 she was married to Sy Vos Gerau in Las Vegas. The couple made their home in the Hawthorne and San Jose, Calif. areas until Sy's transfer with US Air to North Carolina in 1989. Following retirement, they continued to live in this area. Carmon was very adept at craft work, and enjoyed playing cards and watching NASCAR races.

She is survived by her husband of 36 years; two children: Kim and husband Don Cubic of Grass Valley, Calif., and Kevin and wife Kathy Clark of Crossroads, Texas; two grandchildren; five step-grandchildren, and 10 step-great-grandchildren; and many friends and relatives, including her extended family, Vera Brandt and family. She was preceded in death by her parents.
