EARLY -- The Marcus-Meriden-Cleghorn and Aurelia boys competed at the Schaller-Crestland Invitational Track Meet here on Friday.
The Eagles scored 80 points to place third in the meet, while the Bulldogs tallied 62 points to nab sixth place in the 8-team meet. Southeast Webster-Grand took top honors with 101 points, edging out the host Schaller-Crestland team by a single point. The Wildcats won the final event, the 4x400 relay, but Southeast Webster's third place finish in that event was good enough for them to hold on for the team title.
Meet highlights for the two Cherokee County teams included a first place finish for MMC's Will Hanson in the 110 high hurdles, in a time of 16.07, and Eagle relay wins in the shuttle hurdles (1:04.76) and 4x100 (47.1). Justin Henke placed third in the 400 meter dash, with a time in 57.44
Aurelia's Jared Bruce was a double winner, capturing the 400 meters in 55.76, and the 3200 meters, in a time of 10:48.35. Younger brother Aaron Bruce placed third in the 1600 meter run, running the event in 5:32.69.
The Bulldogs scored two relay wins, running the 4x200 (Mike White, Kyle Doherty, Steve White, Jacob Bruce) in 1:38.74, and the medley (Mike White, Doherty, Jacob Bruce, Jared Bruce) in 3:55.30. Two Bulldog relay teams finished fourth -- the 4x100 team of Mike White, Doherty, Steve White, and Jacob Bruce, in a time of 48.47, and the same four athletes, running in their third relay of the night, the 4x400, where they posted a 3:56.89 time.
