Carlson wins open shot put with PB throw

SIOUX CITY - Cherokee's Lynn Carlson won the open shot put with a personal best 40-5 1/4 throw to pace the Washington High girls at Saturday's Sioux City Relays.

Cherokee also notched two fourth-place finishes in the loaded field, with distance ace Kara Nelson claiming fourth place in the 3000 meters in a time of 10:58.6, and the distance medley relay unit of Kelsey Essick, Julie Miller, Lauren Husman, and Alison Husman earning fourth place in a time of 4:32.15.

The 4x200 relay of Nancy Perrin, Essick, Kylie Dilla, and Alanna Valentine claimed sixth place with a 1:58.31 clocking; and the 4x100 relay of Perrin, Essick, Dilla, and Lauren Husman was sixth (no time submitted).

Valentine also earned a sixth-place finish in the 400-meter hurdles in a time of 1:13.2.

"We improved some times in the relays," said Cherokee coach Neil Phipps. "We will keep improving by working and practicing our skills."
