Legacy Foundation provides grants

Aurelia Heritage House - Vernon Winterhof presented a Legacy Foundation check to Jim Tell and Carlton Schulke, accepting on behalf of the Aurelia Heritage House. The funds will be used for heating and air-conditioning at the house, which was the first home in Aurelia.
The Cherokee County Legacy Foundation distributed funds to 12 organizations last week during a banquet at Danny's Sports Spot.

Every year, the county receives somewhere around $65,000 to be distributed to non-profit organizations in the county for projects described in grant requests.

The projects serve such purposes as arts and culture, community development, education, health, human services and historic preservation.

Cleghorn Community Center - Vernon Winterhof presented a Legacy Foundation check to Fran Briggs, accepting on behalf of the Cleghorn Community Center. The funds will be used for handicapped parking and basketball court.
Vernon Winterhof told those present at Danny's last week that the selection of grant requests is based on supporting projects througout the county for varied purposes among those suggested under the County Endowment Fund Program.

The program benefits the 85 counties in the state that do not have gaming licenses. Some of the gambling tax revenue in the state is set aside to benefit counties without gambling revenue.

Organizations approved for 2007 grants and the purpose of the grants are:

Quimby Library - Vernon Winterhof presented a Legacy Foundation check to Conie Sorbe and Judy Brown, accepting on behalf of the Quimby Library. The funds will be used for computer equipment updates.
Cherokee Fire Dept. - pagers; Cherokee County Work Services - new boiler; Aurelia Heritage House - heating and air-conditioning; Cherokee County 4-H Clubs - paint and new display cases for fair grounds; Cherokee Community Theatre - potable acoustical panels; Cherokee Depot Renovation, Inc. - building stabilization and chimney repair; City of Larrabee - community center tables and cabinets; Quimby Library - computer equipment updates; Marcus-Meriden-Cleghorn School District - wellness center equipment; Cleghorn Community Center - handicapped parking and basketball court; Cherokee County Extension District - new copier and facilities rent; Marcus Public Library - heating and air-conditioning equipment
