Jared Bruce sets new NWC mark in 3200
ALTA - The Aurelia boys finished 5th in the team standings at the annual Northwest Conference track meet here on Monday.
Bulldog junior Jared Bruce continued his excellent spring, winning the 3200 meter run in a new conference record time of 10:31.49. Bruce also captured first in the 1600, posting a time of 4:52.24.
Aurelia's only other first place was in the 110 meter high hurdles, where Steve White won in a personal best time of 17.98.
The Bulldogs had no second place finishes, but captured several thirds - Jacob Bruce in the long jump (18-8); Anthony Fowler in the high jump (5-4); Camrin Meyer, with a personal best 18.68 in the 110 meter hurdles; and the 4x200 relay (Mike White, Kyle Doherty, Steve White, Jacob Bruce), in 1:36.10.
Steve White took 4th in the 400 meter hurdles, again posting a personal best time of 1:02.78. Meyer also posted his best time, 1:07.1, but didn't place. The 4x400 team of Jacob Bruce, Steve White, Kyle Doherty, and Jared Bruce placed 4th, in a time of 3:38.51.
Fifth- place finishes went to the 4x800 team of Aaron Bruce, Steve Berg, Jacob Howey, and Andrew Sangwin, in 10:44.98; and the shuttle hurdle relay team of Meyer, Aaron Bruce, Fowler, and Sangwin, was timed in 1:12.54. The Medley Relay team was not able to compete, due to a hamstring injury to Mike White.
Alta was the team champion, scoring 159 points, followed by Sioux Central 115, Schaller-Crestland 103, Newell-Fonda 73, Aurelia 68, Storm Lake St. Mary's 19, and Pomeroy-Palmer 17.
The Aurelia boys and girls compete at the Wolverine Relays in Cherokee this Friday, the Heartland Relays in Marcus next Tuesday, and then the District Meet at Holstein on Saturday, May 12. The State Co-Ed Meet is the following week, Thursday through Saturday at Drake Stadium in Des Moines.
