Cherokee girls drop tennis match

Storm Lake thumped the Cherokee Wasington High girls tennis squad 8-1 in Lakes Conference action in Cherokee on May 1st.

Cherokee's Lynn Leonard claimed the lone victory for her team with a 10-5 win over Caren Sievers in the number two singles match.

In other singles action for Cherokee, Caitlin Thomas lost 10-3 to Allison Kruse at number one, Shannon Schroeder lost 10-1 to Kelly Smith at three, Kristine Reeves fell 10-0 to Abby Smith at four, Jessica Cedar lost 10-1 to Sarah Larson at five, and Allie Parker dropped a close 11-9 decision to Maddie Keys at six.

In doubles action, Thomas and Leonard lost 10-2 to Kruse and Kelly Smith at number one, Schroeder and Reeves lost 10-8 to Sievers and Kies at two, and Cedar and Parker lost 10-4 to Abby Smith and Larson at three.

Storm Lake also prevailed in the JV match 8-1, with Demi Dunn winning the lone match for the WHS JV with an 8-5 verdict at number one.

In other singles matches for Cherokee, Michelle McGarry lost 8-2 at two, Amber Melton lost 8-0 at three, Marissa Leissler lost 8-3 at four, Korianne Aguirre lost 8-3 at five, and Aurora Buschkamp lost 8-1 at six.

In JV doubles, Sydney Morton and McGarry lost 8-0 at number one, Amanda Dittmer and Alison Axiotis lost 8-1 at two, and Amanda Kohn and Hillary Wilkie lost 8-0 at three.
