Cherokee girls vie at Spencer

Carlson, Husman pocket first-place finishes

SPENCER - The Cherokee Washington High girls track and field team had a solid outing at the Spencer Special Track & Field Invitational here Friday, claiming two firsts and five runner-up finishes. No team scores were kept.

Blue ribbon finishes for Cherokee included Lynn Carlson winning the shot put with a 40-10 effort, and Alison Husman winning the long jump with a leap of 15-5.

Cherokee seconds went to Kylie Dilla with a 4-8 high jump, Alison Husman's 1.01.9 time in the 400 meters and 28.4 clocking in the 200 meters, ALanna Valentine's 1:13.6 time in the 400-meter hurdles, and the 4x200 relay team of Kelsey Essick, Dilla, Alissa Dunn, and Lauren Husman timed in 1:54.3.

Third place finishes for the WHS lasses include Erica Nicholson's 12:15.5 clocking in the 3000 meters and 5:30.3 time in the 1500 meters; the shuttle hurdle relay of Misty Bruhn, Bailey English, Julie Miller, and Valentine timed in 1:15.2; the distance medley relay of Nancy Perrin, Valentine, Rochelle McGill, and Jenna Walsh timed in 5:00.1; the 4x100 relay of Sophia Haselhoff, Miller, English, and Bruhn clocked in 57.4; and the 4x400 relay of Lauren Husman, Valentine, Essick, and Alison Husman timed in 4:33.4.

The Cherokee girls compete in the South O'Brien Wolverines Relays Friday night in Cherokee.

Cherokee distance ace Kara Nelson did not compete due to injury.
