Nancy A. Birch, 65, of rural Cleghorn, died Wednesday, May 9 at the Cherokee Regional Medical Center following a long illness.
Funeral services were held on Saturday, May 12 at the Cleghorn Presbyterian Church. Rev. Ray Kruger and Rev. Bob Blair officiated. Burial was in the Meriden Cemetery.
Nancy was born on Jan. 28, 1942 at Cherokee, to Roy & Lilas (Kinzel) Goodrich. She graduated from Cleghorn High School in 1960, and was married to LaVerne Birch on June 16, 1962 at Cleghorn. Their home was on a farm north of Cleghorn , and Nancy was a resident of the Cleghorn area all her life. She worked at the Cherokee Mental Health Institute, Meriden-Cleghorn Schools as a secretary, and was the Drill Team Instructor at the school for 27 years. She was a longtime member of the Cleghorn Presbyterian Church, the Friendship Guild, and bridge clubs. She enjoyed the time spent with her grandchildren, spending winters in Texas, summers at Okoboji, puzzles, and playing the piano and organ.
She was preceded in death by her parents.
She is survived by her husband LaVerne; two daughters: Lisa Johnson and her husband Eric of Cleghorn; Melanie Rose of Omaha, Neb.;and three grandchildren- Allison, Caitlin, and Madison Johnson.
