Memorial services were held Tuesday May 15, 2007 at 1 p.m. at the Grace United Methodist Church, Marcus. Rev. Gary McDonough and Bob Blair officiated. His body was cremated. Additional services were held at the Living Hope Presbyterian Church in Tea, S.D. Greenwood Funeral Home, Cherokee, was in charge of arrangements.
Lyle Poppens was born Aug. 23, 1955 in Sioux Falls, S.D. to Elmore and Tena (Javers) Poppens. He attended school in Lennox, S.D., graduating from high school in 1973. On June 21, 1975 he married Sandra Hagen in Lennox.
They made their home near Lennox, while Lyle worked for the Pioneer Seed Co., which was located near Tea, S.D. When the Pioneer Plant moved to Cherokee in 1997, Lyle and Sandra moved to Marcus, where Lyle lived and remained employed with Pioneer. He enjoyed spending time fishing, boating, weekends at their cabin on Lake Poinsett , working outdoors, and riding his motorcycle. He adored his granddaughter, Alexis.
Survivors include his wife; son Michael, of Sheridan, Oregon; and a daughter, Lisa of Des Moines; brother Larry Poppens, and his wife, Audrey, of Chancellor, S.D.; sisters, Lorna Boterman and her husband, Oliver, of Tea, S.D.; Linda Kidd, of Canton, S.D.; brother Lloyd Poppens, and his wife, Gloria, of rural Chancellor, S.D.; a granddaughter, Alexis Poppens, and her mother, JoLynn Heinse,of Anthon; many nieces and nephews
He was preceded in death by his parents.
