Cherokee Washington's ace runner Kara Nelson recently signed a letter of intent to attend Morningside College in Sioux City and compete in track and cross country for the Mustangs. Kara is the daughter of Jim and Sue Nelson of Cherokee and the 2006 Class 2A state champion in the 3000 meters. She was a three-time state qualifier in distance and relay events, with a leg injury forcing her out of this year's state track and field meet. A repeat All-Lakes Conference performer the last three years, Nelson also notched three top-five finishes at the state cross country meet.
