Frank D. Saxen, 73, of Cherokee, died on Friday, May 25, 2007 in the Veterans Administration Hospital in Sioux Falls, S.D. Funeral services were held on Tuesday, at 2:30 p.m. at the Boothby Funeral Home in Cherokee, Iowa.
Burial was held at the Sunset View Cemetery at Washta. There was military rites at the graveside. Visitation was held on Monday from
1 p.m. until 8 p.m. with the family present from 2 p.m. until 3:30 p.m. at the Boothby Funeral Home in Cherokee.
Frank was born Sept. 11, 1933 at Holstein, to Henry and Anna (Gehrke) Saxen. He attended Holstein Schools. He was married to Betty Spotten in 1967. He had worked for Walnut Grove in Cherokee for several years and for the Wilson Foods Corp. in Cherokee for 18 years, retiring in 1986.
He was a veteran of the Korean War serving in the U.S. Army. He enjoyed fishing and boating. He had been a resident of Cherokee for many years and prior to this had lived in Washta, and was originally from Holstein. He was a member of the Washta United Methodist Church.
He was preceded in death by his parents, brothers Edmund, Henry Jr., Harold, Lawrence and Robert Saxen.
He is survived by one son Biffven Saxen of Spirit Lake; three brothers: Raymond & Joyce Saxen, Wendell Saxen, and Danny & Bonnie Saxen all of Pierson; a sister Lillian Nairn and her friend Jim Manson of Pierson; also many nieces and nephews.
