AURELIA - The busy Aurelia Bulldogs opened their 2007 baseball season with an 8-4 win at Ruthven-Ayrshire last Friday, then dropped a pair of 5-inning games at their annual Memorial Day Tournament here Monday.
After the win over R-A Friday, the Bulldogs of coach T.J. Schaefer lost 5-0 to Okoboji in their first game Monday, and then lost 7-0 to Galva-Holstein to close out the tourney.
Tanner Winterhof got the pitching win for Aurelia in Friday's victory at R-A, allowing two earned runs and striking out nine in five innings of work. Jared Bruce worked the final two innings and allowed no runs while striking out three.
Michael Prichard led the 'Dogs offensive attack with three hits in three trips, three runs scored, and two RBI. Winterhof was 2-3, Camrin Meyer 2-4 with two RBI and a run scored, Matt Todd 1-4 with two RBI and a run scored, and Jared Bruce 1-5 with two runs scored.
On Monday, Aurelia trailed just 1-0 against Okoboji until the last inning when the Pioneers erupted for four runs to put the game away.
Jared Bruce took the loss for the Bulldogs, giving up three earned runs while striking out six in four innings of work.
Winterhoff was 1-2 with two stolen bases, and Meyer and Ross Fitzgerald each 1-2 to lead the Aurelia batters.
Against the G-H Pirates, Angelo Mikos went all five innings to take the mound loss, allowing two earned runs and striking out four. Aurelia committed six costly errors in the ball game.
The Bulldogs managed just two hits off the Pirate pitching, with Ross Fitzgerald and Prichard cracking doubles.
