James Borders
James Matthew Borders, 47, of Cherokee, died Tuesday May 29, 2007 at the Mercy Medical Center in Sioux City following a sudden illness.

Services were held Saturday June 2 at the Greenwood Funeral Home in Cherokee. Gregg Johnson officiated. Burial was in the Oak Hill Cemetery in Cherokee.

Military graveside honors were conducted by V.F.W. L.A. Westcott Post #2253.

James was born Aug. 18, 1959 in San Francisco, Calif. To John and Janet Borders. He attended school in California, where he graduated from high school. He entered the United States Marines and was stationed in Korea.

Following his military service he came to Cherokee, where he managed the Marcus Golf Course, worked for Russell's Redi-Mix and Pioneer Seed near Aurelia.

On April 22, 1995 married Connie Lussier in Reno, Nev. James enjoyed computers, grilling outdoors, scuba diving, playing poker and spending time with his children.

Survivors include his wife Connie, children Joshua Waterman and his fiancÚ, Jamie Chase; Jessica Borders and Kenneth Borders, all of Cherokee; his parents, Ken and Janet Borders, of Manteca, Calif.; a brother, John Border, Jr., of Omaha, Neb.; a sister, Jennifer Gavin, of Fremont, Calif.; two grandchildren, Alexis and Addyson. Nieces, Kaitlyn, Lindsey and Courtney.
