AKRON - Rated Akron-Westfield shut out South O'Brien 9-0 in a War Eagle Conference softball tussle here last week.
The host Westerners scored two runs in the first and added four more in the third to get up and away from the Wolverines, while A-W pitcher Tana Colt stymied the visitors with a no-hitter and allowing only two Wolverine runners reaching base.
Losing Wolverine pitcher Aphton Roberts allowed seven earned runs on 14 hits in the six innings of work. She struck out five.
"Akron-Westfield is good," said South O'Brien coach Mary Helfter. "They use their quickness and pressure your defense to hurry throws. We need to adjust more quickly to their strategies and we need to get more offense going against top-notch teams like A-W."
The SOS girls are 1-1 for the season and host rated Sergeant Bluff-Luton in Paullina tonight.
