EARLY -- Coach Scott Phelps felt his Galva-Holstein Lady Pirates played very consistently in a 12-4 win over Schaller-Crestland here Thursday in windy conditions.
He and the other coaches felt that the Galva-Holstein players did a better job of making contact and being selective at the plate, and that the team has also shown an improved defense over the last few games.
The Lady Pirates collected 14 hits against the Wildcats, led by Sam Grayson's 4-5 performance. Grayson slugged two doubles, a home run, and drove in five runs. Allie Wagoner also drove in two runs with her 2-4 effort, which included a double. Dani Boyle went 1-3 at the plate, stole two bases, and scored three of the Lady Pirates' runs.
Freshman Jaime Christensen continued her improvement on the mound, giving up three hits while striking out eight and walking four.
Galva-Holstein's overall record now stands at 3-4.
