For Nate

Thursday, June 21, 2007

It was an emotional time as the Cherokee Braves recently dedicated their new baseball scoreboard in the memory of Nate Schubert, a 2001 Washington High School graduate, who was killed in the war in Iraq in 2005 while serving with the United States Marine Corps. The scoreboard was purchased with memorial money given to Nate's family in honor of Nate's service and supreme sacrifice. Nate was an exceptional athlete in baseball and football for the Braves. Participating in the dedication ceremonies were, left to right, Cherokee coach Steve Sonka, Dale Robb, Nate's mother Cheryl Winkelpleck, Cherokee head coach Scott Koch, Nate's brother Matt Schubert and his wife Julie, and Nate's sister Liz Householder and her husband Heath, and their children. An additional photo from the dedication ceremony is on page 14. Photo by Paul Struck
