10-6 Wolverines win three road games

The fast-improving South O'Brien softball club won three tough road games recently, clipping Remsen St. Mary's in Remsen 5-2, Granville Spalding in Granville 12-2, and Hinton in Hinton 6-4.

Ashton Lansink led the Wolverines past St. Mary's with a 3-4 effort at the plate, an RBI and run scored. Faith Wittrock also went 3-4 and scored twice, Carrie Egdorf was 2-3 and scored twice, and Chelsie Rohrs rapped a single and sacrifice fly for two RBI. Lindsay Woolston, Aphton Roberts, and Taylor Julian also had hits for the winning SOS team.

Roberts got the pitching win, allowing two runs on five hits and no walks, with eight big strikeouts.

In the win over Spalding, Roberts again got the win on the mound, giving up two runs on nine scattered hits and no walks, with three Ks.

Roberts also led the SOS offense with three hits, two RBI, and two runs scored. Lindsay Woolston had two hits and scored three times, Rachel Steinkamp had a double and singl, Julian two singles, and Lansink a triple and a run scored.

A pair of two-run doubles in the sixth inning by Christine Haden and Egdorf propelled the Wolverines past a dangerous Hinton squad Monday night.

The Blackhawks grabbed a quick 2-0 lead in the first inning, with the Wolverines answering with a single run in the second when Jullian singled, advanced on a passed ball, and scored oon a Chelsie Rohrs double.

SOS won the game with a five-run sixth inning keyed by the RBI doubles off the bats of Haden and Egdorf. Julian also singled and Rohrs rapped an RBI double in that big sixth-inning uprising.

Roberts got the win, allowing two earned runs on seven hits and two walks, with eight Ks.

"We managed to get base runners, but had trouble scoring until the sixth inning," said veteran SOS coach Mary Helfter. "Chelsey Ebel led off the sixth with a single and sparked the rally."

South O'Brien, now 10-6 on the season and 8-2 in the tough War Eagle Conference, plays in the Okoboji Tournament this weekend, and travels to dangerous Sergeant Bluff-Luton on Monday.
