Le Mars pounds WHS in softball

Thursday, June 28, 2007

Visiting Le Mars hammered the Cherokee Washington High softball team 18-0 here in a five-inning blowout, called early due to the 10-run mercy rule.

Cherokee simply had no answers for the Bulldogs this night, either in the field or at the plate, as Le Mars pounded out 15 hits for 18 runs (14 earned).

Cherokee's starting pitcher Shauna Drefke, who also pitched most of the three games her team had played this week Monday through Wednesday, including a double-header at Sheldon Tuesday night, absorbed the loss, allowing five earned runs on five hits and three walks, with one strikeout.

Kylie Dilla relieved Drefke but it mattered little to the Bulldogs, who came to town with their bats smoking. She gave up nine earned runs on 10 hits.

Cherokee managed just two hits off Le Mars pitcher Stevenson, who struck out five. Getting those hits were Dilla and Lacie Drennan.
