As of early Friday afternoon (June 22), James Tiernan and Ryan Kolpin have filed nomination papers for the position of Cherokee County Attorney.
Tiernan was appointed by the Cherokee County Board of Supervisors as of June 1 to be county attorney. Kolpin has a private practice with an office in Aurelia, as well as being the county magistrate -until his resignation, effective June 21.
It is prohibited for a county attorney to serve as magistrate. The magistrate position will be filled by appointment on July 20.
The election for county attorney will take place on July 17.
No other candidates for county attorney were anticipated by the 4:30 p.m. Friday deadline for filing.
