The Marcus-Meriden-Cleghorn softball squad dropped a pair of tough War Eagle Conference tussles last week, falling 10-3 to Le Mars Gehlen in Cleghorn, and losing 7-2 at Hinton.

On Monday, the Eagles fell 12-0 to top-ranked Akron-Westfield in Cleghorn.

Lindy Pedersen took the pitching loss against Gehlen, allowing 10 runs on seven hits, with six strikeouts to her credit. Le Mars hurler Lauren Livermore gave up three runs on five hits and had four Ks.

The MMC club rapped two doubles and three singles, and the victorious Jays had three doubles and four singles.

Andrea Doeden took the pitching loss for MMC against Hinton, allowing six runs ono 11 hits and one walk. Pedersen relieved Doeden and gave up a run and one hit.

Hinton pitcher Shelby Birocci allowed two runs on two hits and three walks, with three strikeouts.

In the loss to A-W, Pedersen took the mound loss in the four-inning game called because of the 10-run mercy rule. Pedersen gave up 12 runs on 12 hits and three walks. MMC managed just one hit off Westerner pitcher Smith.

"Akron-Westfield did a nice job of hitting the seams and making our defense play hard," said MMC coach Jenna Johnson. "We had only three errors and hit the ball, but came up short."
