Cherokee softball team loses to Spencer, 8 - 3

Tuesday, July 10, 2007

SPENCER - Cherokee softball coach Tara Malausky summed up her squad's 8-3 loss to Spencer here on Friday in three words: "Too many errors." Indeed, Cherokee out-hit Spencer 9-8, but the Cherokee girls committed 10 errors in the field, in large part the reason for the score.

Emily Anderson had two hits aginst Spencer
Shauna Drefke was on the mound for Cherokee, and she walked one and struck out one, in addition to the eight hits she surrendered. Alanna Valentine and Emily Anderson both had 2-2 nights at the plate, and each scored once. Valentine clubbed two doubles, and Anderson successfully executed a sacrifice. Kylie Dilla, Kelsay Essick, Lacie Drennan, Lynn Carlson, and Drefke also had hits for Cherokee. Essick and Drefke's hits were two-baggers, and Dilla and Drennan each drove in a run.

One consolation note for Cherokee - The final score could have been worse, as the Tigers stranded 10 runners.

Cherokee now has an 8-15 overall record, and is 3-8 in Lakes Conference play. The girls play Western Christian here tonight (Thursday) in Lakes Conference action, host BC-IG here tomorrow (Friday), and then play in the Tiger/Knight Tournament in Carroll on Saturday.
