CHEROKEE - The Cherokee girls had some momentum going in their Lakes Conference tussle with Storm Lake here on July 3rd, but the game was stopped in the bottom of the sixth inning due to inclement weather, and the Tornadoes took the game, 5-2.

Shauna Drefke pitched for coach Tara Malausky's Cherokee squad, and she surrendered 10 hits and three earned runs, while striking out two Lakers. Cherokee could only muster three hits in the contest - one apiece for Kylie Dilla, Lynn Carlson, and Shauna Drefke. Dilla had an RBI, and Carlson and Alanna Valentine scored Cherokee's two runs.

Storm Lake committed two errors to Cherokee's three, and left five runners on base to Cherokee's three.

Cherokee's squad now has an overall record of 8-17, and are 3-9 in Lakes Conference games. They play in the Tiger/Knight Tournament at Carroll Saturday, at Estherville-Lincoln Central on Monday, and host Manson-Northwest Webster on Tuesday. They wrap up their regular season on Wednesday at LeMars, and will start District Tournament play against Battle Creek-Ida Grove at Battle Creek on Monday July 16, at 7 p.m.
