Galva-Holstein girls 1-1 in tournament

MONDAMIN - The Galva-Holstein softball team won one and lost one at the West Harrison Softball Tournament on Saturday at Mondamin.

In the first game, G-H was defeated by West Monona 1-0. Jaime Peterson took the tough loss on the mound, giving up only one hit. Peterson walked two and struck out four. The Pirates had just three hits themselves, from Dani Boyle, Sam Grayson, and Sarah Lichter.

In heir second game, the Lady Pirates defeated host West Harrison, 17-8. Michaela Else pitched three inning to earn the win, givng up two hits, while striking out one, and walking no one. The Lady Pirates had 15 hits, and "hit the ball well in crucial situations," said their coach, Scott Phelps.

Sam Grayson went 2-4 with 4 RBI, Sarah Lichter 2-3 with 1 RBI, and Brea Slaybaugh 2-3 with 2 RBI.

Phelps said the coaches are happy with the progress the team is makng on both offense and defense. "The girls are being very patient at the plate," he said, "waiting for good pitches, and the defense is playing well, with very few errors."

Galva-Holstein's season record is now even at 16-16.
