HARTLEY - South O'Brien exploded for 15 hits in a convincing 12-2 demolition of Hartley-Melvin-Sanborn here Monday night.
Ashton Lansink led the Wolverine attack with a two run triple, a two-run home run, and a run scored. Taylor Julian was 4-4 with two RBI and a run scored, and Lindsay Woolston, Aphton Roberts, and Carrie Egdorf each rapped two singles.
"We had runners on base and in scoring position in all but the sixth inning," noted SOS coach Mary Helfter. "I was pleased to see our offense keep the pressure on their defense. They gave Aphton Roberts excellent run support and she pitched a great game."
Roberts got the win, allowing just one hit to the lead-off batter in the first frame, walked two and struck out 12 Hawks.
SOS also won the JV game 5-4, and the freshman game 10-9.
The two teams meet again in first-round Class 2A District action in Hartley at 7 p.m. Monday. SOS now sports an 18-11 overall record, and stands 13-5 in the tough War Eagle Conference.
