Cherokee girls fall at Le Mars

LE MARS - A quality Le Mars team claimed a 10-4 Lakes Conference victory over a battling Cherokee club here on July 11th in the final game of the regular season for both squads.

Cherokee begins Class 2A District Tournament action at 7 p.m. Monday, facing 10th-ranked Battle Creek-Ida Grove at Battle Creek. Cherokee nicked the Falcons 6-5 in a non-conference game in Cherokee last Friday night.

Le Mars pounded out 13 hits and took advantage of five Cherokee errors to overtake the Washington High club here Wednesday.

Shauna Drefke took the pitching loss for Cherokee, which was playing its eighth game in five days. She allowed 10 runs on 13 hits and two walks, with two strikeouts in six innings of work.

Cherokee totaled four runs on nine hits and left three runners on base in the game.

Leading hitters for Cherokee included Emily Anderson 2-3 with a run scored and double, Alison Husman 1-2 an run scored, Kylie Dilla 1-4 with an RBI and run scored, Kelsey essick 1-4 with an RBI and run scored, Lacie Drennan 1-3 and an RBI, Lynn Carlson 1-3 and an RBI, Drefke 1-3, and Alanna Valentine 1-3.

Cherokee takes a 12-21 record into the tournaments and finished 4-12 in Lakes Conference play this season.
