The Cherokee County Fair had good participation in a number of events. The demolition derby remains the primary draw with a crowd that was better than ever and the new go-kart track appears to be a good draw.
However, with the exception of some specialty events, the fair had lackluster attendance. One possible explanation is the absence of a carnival.
Inflatable recreational devices are fine for a certain age group, but they aren't the same as a carnival.
The Cherokee County Fair Board has had some bad luck with unreliable carnival providers. This has gone on a few years and may have already had a cumulative negative impact on people's expectations of the fair.
The fair board needs to act quickly to line up a carnival for next year, even if it costs a bit extra to get a reliable organization to make the commitment.
