GALVA - The Galva-Holstein softball team opened the first round of Class 1A Districts with a solid 8-1 decision over Aurelia on July 14th.

Getting the win on the mound for the Lady Pirates was Jaime Christensen, who gave up one run on five hits and one walk, and struck out six in seven innings of work.

G-H rapped out 16 hits in the game, with every Pirate batter getting at least one hit. Leading the way were Heather Joslin 2-4 with three RBI, Lindsey Joslin 2-5 with one RBI, Sam Grayson 3-5 with two RBI, Dani Boyle 2-4 and two runs scored, Allie Wagoner 2-4 and one RBI, Emily Schiernbeck 2-4, and Kristina Harris and Sara Lichter, each cracking a double.

"We're happy with the effort in all aspects of the game," said Pirate coach Scott Phelps. "The pitching was solid, defense was solid, and our hitting came alive and found some holes."

G-H takes a 17-18 overall record down tourney trail.

The Lady Pirates lost their last regular season game 4-2 at Marcus-Meriden-Cleghorn last week.

Leading hitters for G-H were Lindsay Joslin 2-3 with an RBI, and Allie Wagoner 2-3 with a double.

Jaime Christensen took the pitching loss for the Pirates, allowing four runs on four hits and two walks, with four Ks in six innings of work.

"The kids continue to play hard but we just can't get any breaks to go our way," said Phelps. "We are hitting the ball hard, but right at people. The pitching and defense has been solid."
